Community Says Thanks to the Bombeiros
David, Penny Trubshaw and Jackie Thornton hosted Rotarians, neighbours and friends at home near Portimão for a Coffee Morning in their garden, on Sunday, October 9. The Coffee Morning was in aid of the Bombeiros to thank them for so gallantly fighting the flames as they edged near to their property and those of local friends in and around Monchique. See Video. A 10€ donation and monies from cake sales raised a total of 1500€ to provide items for the bombeiros, through Silves Rotary Club. Thanks go to all those who made cakes and ate cakes to support this event.
Fundraising success at Isabel’s Garden Party
Rotarians and friends enjoyed an afternoon of fun and fundraising in the garden of Isabel Flores’s home near Silves, on 25 August. Isabel’s shady garden offers views over the Silves countryside and guests enjoyed a wide array of lovely food in this gorgeous setting. A quiz about Portugal caused alot of laughter as guests battled with questions about the personalities and history of this beautiful country. The event was in aid of supporting those suffering with cancer and raised 600€. Dr Margarida Damasceno, Directora de Servico, Hospital de S Joao in Porto was on hand to accept the donation on the hospital’s behalf. RC Silves also has a project which encourages people to focus on environmental issues and as part of this project three new trees were planted in Isabel’s garden by Alan Winn, Sheena Rawcliffe and the RC Silves President David Trubshaw. Thank you Isabel for a lovely afternoon.

Garden Party Fun
Sunday 19 June was when friends gathered at the home of Stewart and Linda for a garden party in aid of the Education Fund. We could not have wished for a better day. Temperatures were just right and with the party set in the beautiful garden of their home near Nora we all enjoyed a wide range of delicious food provided by friends and members of the club.
Incoming President David Trudshaw organised most of the games and winners were able to take home some fabulous prizes.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended and over 1000€ was raised on the day.
A big thank you must go to Stewart and Linda for hosting the event and to all those who contributed to make such a successful day.
