Rotary Silves Shoeboxes
Every year RC Silves contributes to the Castelo de Sonhos Shoe box appeal. This provides Christmas gifts to the families in need at Christmas. The first of the RC Silves shoe boxes were delivered to the Holiday Inn today. Making RC Silves total 30 so far with more to come. The appeal aims to provide 250 families with a gift this Christmas.



Silves Rotary Club Plaque Unveiled
Silves Rotary club meets regularly at the Holiday Inn, Armacao de Pera. The President Alan Winn, Past President Isabel Flores and a representative of the hotel unveiled a plaque on the 11 November to highlight our long running partnership. The Holiday Inn has always enthusiastically supported the club in its endeavors to raise funds and support the local community.


The District Governor visits RC Silves
The District Governor visited RC Silves last week to review the work of the club and to offer his support for our activities.


During his visit acting President Alan Winn presented the governor with a cheque for 500euros for the Governor’s fund which is spent on causes chosen by the Governor.


During the event he was able to welcome two new members Dulce Reis Home and Philippe Pfister.


He also presented a Rotary Citation to one of RC Silves and Rotary’s long standing members Isabel Flores. Her family were Rotarians and she has worked hard for the community of Silves and across the Algarve.

Visiting Artist Receives a Flag
Susan Puttick, a celebrated artist, resident in the Algarve visited the members of RC Silves to discuss a fundraising opportunity. Susan produces artwork and cards of the flora of the world. The flag exchange was a mark of appreciation of her work and her generous donation to the club’s community support funds. Members look forward to working with her in the future.


RC Silves Gains A Rotary Citation

RC Silves Donates to End Polio Now
The Certificate below acknowledges the generous donations from the Rotary Club of Silves to the End Polio Now Program for the Rotary Year 2020/21. This donation will be matched 2:1 by The Gates Foundation.
It highlights that Rotary will continue to support this program whilst also, supporting the struggle against Covid among the poorest of the poorest countries and regions.

Welcome to Maria
At our first meeting this year, we had the opportunity to present Maria with her Rotary pin. She has been working with us for at least a year and previously has supported our fundraising events. Officially a member in January we were unable to present her pin due to the Covid 19 restrictions. We were so happy to see her receive her pin and celebrate with her.
Back to School: Trainers needed
The “Back to School” campaign is starting next month. They are giving each child a pair of trainers + 2 pairs of socks when the filled backpacks go out at the end of August. They’ve had a donation of shoes for the youngest kids but need 40 pairs for the older ones, trainers, sizes 36 to 41. So can you check your cupboards and shoe racks for any trainers in good condition that you can spare. Contact us on MOC.rotarysilves@gmail.com we will arrange to pick up.

Establishing goodwill and fellowship between Britain, Ireland and Portugal
This rotary year 2020/21, RC Silves has joined the new Inter-Country Committee established between Portugal – Great Britain-Ireland (RGB&I).
The founding Rotary Districts and Clubs are:-
Portuguese Section
For District 1960 RC Oeiras, RC Silves, RC Almancil International, RC Estoi-Palace International, RC São João da Madeira, RC Porto and District 1970 RC Guimarães
Britain and Ireland (RGB&I) Section
For District 1040, RC Leeds White Rose, for District 1060, RC Great Britain and Ireland, for District 1070, RC Leicester, Rotaract Club of Leicester Universities, for District 1100, RC Bristol, for District 1145, RC Kew Gardens and for District 1240 RC Halstead
The clubs involved have committed to increase international understanding, intercultural sharing, establish goodwill and promote fellowship between Britain, Ireland and Portugal. Through common projects they will aim to improve awareness and mutual understanding between communities and cultures.
RC Silves looks forward to joining its fellow Rotarians in this endeavour.
