Amazing Mince Pies and Mulled Wine

What alot raised

Amazing!  That is the only way to describe the amount of money raised at the Mince Pies and Mulled Wine event held at the home of Sue and Andre Winstanley.  Visitors were not on treated to some delicious mulled wine and mince pies but to our surprise a whole range of savouries and other deserts as well.  Thanks to the generosity of those attending in not only making an entry donation but also taking part in the raffle and tombola the amount raised was €835.  Visitors had a chance to start their christmas celebrations early, enjoy good company and be satisfied that all of the money raised would be added to the growing amount to help the Oncology Association of the Algarve purchase a new mobile breast cancer screening unit.

Celebration of the Digital Media Project a Success

The audience

Students, parents, Rotarians and Friends of Rotary gathered to see the 16 short films produced by the students of Escolas Silves Sul during the first year of the Digital Media Project. The films included the six films shortlisted for the Wildern School´ Oscars in Southampton in July. The students that travelled to the UK for the ceremony were present and the evening was a celebration of their success. The audience were entralled by the films and astounded that the students had achieved so much with so little equipment.  The evening started with wine and nibbles and guests had an opportunity to talk with students and staff about the impact of the project. Pam Winn gave a short presentation about the project to see the presentation click here http://prezi.com/embed/etm7ui2efrzq/?bgcolor=ffffff&lock_to_path=1&autoplay=0&autohide_ctrls=0&features=undefined&token=undefined&disabled_features=undefined. This is the first of many events to support the continuation of the project and €230 was raised from donations.  It is hoped to expand the project to more students this year and to hold the first Oscar ceremony on the Algarve in March. The Algarve Oscars will be hosted by Escola Silves Sul and a group of students from Wildern School will travel to the Algarve and will enter their films for the Algarve Oscars.

Amendoeira Golf Day Success

Amendoeira Golf Resort

Amendoeira Golf Resort

15 June 2014 Charity Golf Tournament Amendoeira Golf Resort:

The golf day at the fabulous Amendoeira Golf Resort took place on the hottest day of the year so far, however, that did not prevent golfers of all abilities turning in some very good scores on the difficult Faldo course.  Comments from golfers included “a great day for a good cause” as they tucked into a very nice lunch in the clubhouse after the game.  Although with fewer numbers than expected a very respectable €1800 was raised to be used to help the Oncology Association of the Algarve with their cancer prevention programme.  Grateful thanks to all who helped organise the event and those too who took part.

Looking forward to next year!

5 June Concert by Wind Quintet “Pasu”

CasaculturaLast year’s  concert, was the most successful yet!  Comments from our guests were ” Best event I have been to in the Algarve since we moved here”, “Lovely evening well done” and “a delightful concert and  a lovely evening”.  This year’s concert is on the 5 June at 18:30. The evening will start with drinks and canapés in the moorish gardens before guests are treated to an interesting programme of music by the quintet “Pasu”at the delightful Casa da Cultura Islâmica e Mediterrânica in Silves.

1mittelPasu was founded in 20 August 2008, on the occasion of ” International Summer Academy of Chamber Music Niedersachsen” of students from the four conservatories in North Rhine -Westphalia , Detmold, Dusseldorf , Essen and Cologne . The members of the ensemble , Julia Bremm (flute) , Louise Rummel (oboe) , Yousef Eisa ( clarinet), Olivia Comparot (bassoon) and Anna Katharina Swartman ( horn ), are all still studying with renowned professors in their field and are currently working in various German orchestras . They continue to expand their repertoire and present in their concerts, and chamber music for the pleasure of their audiences. This young ensemble accepted in the spring of 2011 an invitation to the festival ” 3mittelMusicales de Grillon ” in France and they played several concerts in Provence.  In their varied concert programs they present both classical wind quintet pieces. Whether a formal concert or as musical accompaniment, the quintet ” Pasu ” offers an energetic and distinctive ensemble sound , which creates a memorable experience for each of their concerts.

Their exciting and varied programme for this event consists of:

W.A.Mozart – Fantasie,

Félix Mendelssohn – Quintette,

Maurice Ravel – Le Tombeau de Couperin,

Antonín Dvořák – Streichquartett

György Ligeti – Six Bagatelles  More detailed Programme
